Christmas in Indianapolis

If you’re visiting Indianapolis this Christmas, you’ll be pleased to find a variety of events, activities and entertainment for the whole family. One of the more popular venues this time of year is Christmas at the Zoo. Hosted at the Indianapolis Zoo, this holiday tradition features hundreds of thousands of lights, as well as a chance to see Santa and sing Christmas carols by the roaring campfire.

Another family favorite is Jolly Days Winter Wonderland at the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. Fun for children of all ages, this event runs until January 10 and features indoor snowball fights, sock skating on the indoor pond and of course a chance to see Santa. Kids can even help Santa’s reindeer prepare for the long trip!

If you prefer more refined, indoor entertainment then you won’t want to miss the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and its Yuletide Celebration. This Broadway style production includes singing, tap dancing Santas and flying reindeer. The featured host of the show this year is Grammy award-winning singer Maureen McGovern. This show is a must see for families of all ages!

Top off your visit to Indianapolis with a visit to the Morris-Butler House for Victorian holiday tea. This beautiful and historic landmark is lavishly decorated for the holidays. Here you can learn about Victorian Christmas traditions while enjoying flavored tea and various finger foods such as spice cookies, scones, cucumber sandwiches and Victorian Snow cake. This is a delightful tour that is best reserved for older children and adults.
